Nightstop prevents homelessness through community hosting

Virgin Money Giving

New Forest Nightstop is now offering the Virgin Money Giving fundraising service. With Virgin Money Giving people can make a one-off or monthly donation. If people are entering a sponsored event, they can set up an on-line fundraising page on the Virgin Money giving website and link to New Forest Nightstop as part of Community First New Forest’s page so that we receive donations directly. The Nightstop page on the Virgin Money Giving site is found here

Just Text Giving

New Forest Nightstop uses its own, unique personalised text code, ABED41, to raise funds using JustTextGiving by Vodafone. This is a brand new, free service for charities that has no set up or fundraising costs for charities, no network charges for people making donations and every penny donated goes to charity. Gift Aid can also be added to donations.

Supporters of New Forest Nightstop can make donations of up to £10 by texting ABED41 and either 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 or 10 to 70070 to make their donation. The text message is free and all of the donation will be passed to New Forest Nightstop. This is a wonderful way for us to raise money as it’s speedy, simple and spontaneous. Most people have a mobile phone these days so we expect this to be very popular with our supporters.

Online shops

New Forest Nightstop has teamed up with and to bring two fantastic online shopping options that will help raise vital funds for our service. With our new online shopping options people can now raise money for homeless young people in the New Forest at no cost to and avoid long queues in the High Street shops at the same time.

Our fundraising page on the website enables people to raise money through online purchases with many well known companies including, Amazon, Argos, Asda, B&Q, Comet, Debenhams, eBay, Halfords, John Lewis, Marks and Spencer, PC World, Sainsbury’s, Tesco, Toys R Us, WHSmith and many more!

Payroll Giving

Payroll Giving is an easy tax effective way to make a regular donation to support New Forest Nightstop. It enables people to give to New Forest Nightstop from their gross salary (before tax is deducted) giving immediate tax relief on those donations. It is also possible to donate in this way through a pension.

Basic rate tax payers

If they pay tax at the basic rate, for every £1 that they earn, 20p is paid in tax. For example, if they pledge £10 a month, we receive the full amount but only £8 will be deducted from their net pay.

Higher rate tax payers

If they pay income tax at the higher rate of 40% then, using the same example, only £6 would be deducted from their net pay, and at the super rate of 50% only £5 would be deducted.

It is more efficient for higher rate taxpayers to donate through Payroll Giving than Gift Aid as charities are unable to claim back tax above the basic rate through the Gift Aid scheme. There is no long-term commitment. If their circumstances change and they no longer wish to donate to us, they simply tell their employer. Also, if they change their job, their donations will not be able to be transferred to their new employer and they would need to start a new payroll giving scheme.

What to do next

Download and complete our Payroll Giving Form. If their company is not registered for the scheme they can sign up with a payroll giving agency who can process employee donations. There is a list of agencies at the Payroll Giving Centre website.

Gift Aid

Please remember to encourage Gift Aid when people are making a donation. It doesn’t matter how big or small their donation or whether it’s regular or not. If they are a taxpayer living in the UK, under the Gift Aid scheme, New Forest Nightstop can reclaim tax they have already paid on their gift. This means for every £1 donated, the charity receives an extra 25p.
